New Zealand Lord of the Rings Tour
A friend of my extended family recently visited New Zealand for the "Lord of the Rings" Tour and came back with some
photos that they shared with me. The white-haired gentleman is Harry, and the young man is his grandson whose name I have sadly forgotten. While they shared
more photos of the tour with me, they came without explanation so I have currently only included the photos that are either clearly understood or impart
some clear information.

The Fellowship of the Ring: Shire Party Field
Shown Left: As near as I can remember from my conversation with Harry
this is a picture of the field where Bilbo Baggins celebrated his "eleventy-first"
birthday in the Shire. For those who have read the books, we commonly know this as the
"party field". |
The Fellowship of the Ring: Ringwraith on Hilltop
| Shown Left: Harry's grandson quite
convincingly poses as the Ringwraith on steed in this now classic shot
from the movie "The Fellowship of the Ring". |

The Fellowship of the Ring: Hobbits in Hiding
Shown Left: This series of photos is where the "Get off the Road" scene
took place after the run from Farmer Maggots farm. This scene is generally
referred to as the "Hobbits in Hiding" scene. The top photo is obviously the
scene where the road appears to morph as Frodo Baggins warns his hobbit
companions; Merry Brandybuck, Pippen Took and Sam Gamgee of pending danger
on the Road to Bree. |

The Fellowship of the Ring: Gandalf & Saruman Talk |
Shown Left: Harry and his grandson play the parts of the wizards Gandalf
& Saruman walking through Isengard in this cleverly re-enacted scene where Gandalf is first seeking
the advice & council of Saruman on the finding of the One Ring. |

Camp Rivendell
Shown Left: While these pictures are not taken from the movie I included
them because the sign is clearly in place to commemorate a scenes filming
near this location. While I can read most of the words on the sign, I cannot
read them all. E-mail me if you can. I will put the words here. |

The Fellowship of the Ring: Legolas Arriving in Rivendell
Shown Left: Ah, the wonders of CGI. Here Harry and his grandson cleverly
show how this landscape was used in the film. The photo on the bottom is the
scene in the film itself as Legolas arrives in Rivendell for the Council of
Elrond |

The Two Towers: The Fall of Aragorn in Battle
Shown Left: Here we see the scene of Aragorn's fall in battle in
the flight of the people of Rohan to Helms Deep in "The Two Towers" film. Once again, Harry's grandson has cleverly made this
photo speak for itself. I wonder if a horse approached him as he lay
there? It wouldn't be bad if Arwen had shown up as well. |
