Given to Frodo Baggins by his cousin Bilbo Baggins, the hobbit who was first Ring bearer. It is up to Frodo and a chosen "Fellowship" to cast the Ring back into Mount Doom, where it was forged, and destroy it and Sauron once and for all. Bilbo gives Frodo Sting, made by Elves in ancient days, to serve him on his harrowing journey. Bilbo was carrying it with him when he "acquired" the Ring from Gollum. Its blade glows when Orcs, violent foot soldiers of Sauron, are present. Engraved on blade and cross guard are runes in the Elven language of Sindarin that says "Maegnas is my name, I am the spider's bane."

WETA Lord of the Rings Sting Sword WETA Lord of the Rings Sting Sword Sting - Fine Art Limited Edition - The Master Swordsmith's Collection
WETA Workshop
$8000 US
2012
Limited Edition Size: 25
Dimensions: 27.2" x 6.9" x 1" (H x W x D)
69 cm x 17.4 cm x 2.5 cm
Weight: 2.5 lbs (1.1 kg)
Found in a Trolls' hoard by Bilbo Baggins, Sting was an ancient Elven blade from the lost realm of Gondolin. Bilbo carried it through many adventures, naming it and having it inscribed with Elvish script. Magical enchantments it held, glowing blue when Orcs were near. For long years Sting gathered dust in the old Hobbit's cupboards until need arose to unsheathe its keen edge once more and he presented it to his young cousin Frodo Baggins in Rivendell. Frodo would carry it with him toward Mordor, and it would save his life more than once before the end.

The fourth sword in the The Lord of the Rings Master Swordsmith's Collection, Sting is the most elaborate sword yet in the series. It encompasses a multitude of sword making, metal crafting and wood working techniques. It joins Andúril, Strider's Sword and Glamdring - all long since sold out. Sting marries the cutting edge (literally) of modern precision engineering with ancient and all but forgotten techniques. While the blade was made in Weta's smithy using time-honoured traditional techniques and great skill, the grip is also a testament to Man's mastery of the machine.

With a metal hilt and pommel, this looks and feels like the real thing. Measures 27 x 7 x 1.5 inches. When you wield Frodo's trusty weapon, you'll know when Orcs are near because it glows blue! Not only that, but you'll experience a clash and clang of battle with digitally recorded sound effects controlled by a motion sensor inside this replica. A die-cast metal handle has a wood-grain pattern and silver leaf filigree accents. Crafted in ancient Elven tradition, Sting's blade has a brushed metal finish with a trans-reflective silver coating that looks like metal when it is not activated. Core of the permanently attached polycarbonate blade glows brightly when activated with flick of a switch. Die-cast metal handle has a wood-grain pattern and silver leaf filigree accents. A sliding switch on handle toggles among 3 modes: "OFF," "ON," and "ORC." If switch is in "ON" position, Sting sword emits clash and clang sounds when struck. In "ORC" mode Sting hums and glows blue as a warning that Orcs are in the vicinity. Display base looks like carved stone with stands that look like medieval wrought iron to hold this sword in place. It can be adjusted so that your collectible can be displayed on a flat surface or hanging on a wall. Sting is cast from molds used to create actual movie prop used in the trilogy and replicated in exact "Hobbit" proportions as original prop. Glamdring - the sword of Gandalf. An ancient blade from the smithies of Gondolin, now long lost, Glamdring was a legendary sword revered by the Elves and feared by Orcs. In the Third Age of Middle-earth it lived upon the hip of Gandalf the Grey and in his hand it sent many a servant of the dark into oblivion, chief amongst them, the mighty Balrog of Moria, Durin's Bane. Gandalf himself had recovered it from a Troll hoard, though how it came to be there none could tell. An elegant blade crafted in the distant past for an Elven King, Gandalf's sword was known as Glamdring, the foe-hammer. The curved cross guard bore a single clear blue stone and a Sindarin proclamation in Cirith runes, "Turgon, king of Gondolin, wields, has and holds the sword Glamdring, foe of Morgoth's realm, hammer to the Orcs. Glamdring was designed by Ben Wootten and made at Weta Workshop in New Zealand for The Lord of the Rings film trilogy by Master Swordsmith Peter Lyon.
