Shown Top Left: Pursuit in Rohan Plate
Bottom Left: Example of Reverse
1995
In a truly remarkable feat of endurance, the three hunters, Aragorn, Gimli, and Legolas have crossed the plains of Rohan in just three days...on foot. The pursuit is fueled by the friendship held for the captured halflings, Merry Brandybuck and Pippin Took, who are being raced to Isengard by the Uruk-hai under the orders of Saruman. While the Uruk-hai have been bred to do this king of thing, the human Aragorn and dwarf Gimli, have not. Legolas is untrouble by the pursuit in Rohan.

Danbury Mint Lord of the Rings Khazed-Dum Plate Bridge of Khazad-Dum
1995
In what is perhaps the most famous and epic scene of The Lord of the Rings trilogy (Debatably, Eowyn and the Witch-King), we see Gandalf standing his ground on the Bridge of Khazad-Dum. Across the defense causeway is an ancient demon of Morgoth...a Balrog. This Balrog was the undoing of the dwarves in the Mines of Moria many ages ago and it may prove to be the undoing of the Fellowship of the Ring. Even the orcs and trolls fear this demon of the ancient world.

Danbury Mint Green Hill Country Plate Green Hill Country
The Hobbits are only a few days out of Hobbiton and it is beautiful here, though danger is closer upon them than they think, this plate depicts the Hobbits casually making their way through the part of the Shire known as Green Hill Country. They are still days away from Farmer Maggots farm and they can't imagine how this land could hold any peril

Danbury Mint Lord of the Rings Mount Doom Plate At the Foot of Mount Doom
The One Ring has been destroyed, Sauron has fallen, the Barad-Dur lay in ruins, the Black Gates are broken. The heroic Hobbits Frodo Baggins and Sam Gamgee have done it. With the unlikely aid of Gollum the great evil of Middle-Earth can be relegated to the past. Just one problem. The Hobbits are still at the foot of Mount Doom and the entire mountain is erupting. Having found high ground on a boulder the Hobbits lament that this should be their end after such a perilous journey. But this is not their fate. Gwaihir the Windlord has been enlisted by Gandalf to make the treacherous flight to the foot of Mount Doom and seek out the two Hobbits. It's not like flying these days.

Danbury Mint Lord of the Rings Treebeard Plate Treebeard
Treebeard....such a hasty name for the Ent of Fangorn Forest. Truthfully, he is Fangorn and Fangorn is he. Treebeards role in the undoing of Saruman is well known to both lovers of the movies and the books alike. For readers of the books you are aware of how Treebeard takes the Hobbits, Merry Brandybuck and Pippin Took, to new heights as they drink the cool waters of the Entwash. Treebeards call for a meeting of the Ents at Derndingle is a pivotal part of the War of the Ring.

Danbury Mint Ride of the Rohirrim Plate Ride of the Rohirrim
Seen with Certificate of Authenticity and Packaging
Having just defeated the Uruk-Hai army of Saruman in the Battle of Helms Deep, the Rohirrim led by King Theoden, gather again for the attempt to save Gondor from Sauron and his minions. The Ride of the Rohirrim is legendary in the lore of Middle-Earth. Accompanied by the disguised Eowyn, the Rohirrim cross paths with the ancient folk...pukel-men, and enlist the aid of Ghan-buri-Ghan in an attempt to gain safe passage to Gondor.

Danbury Mint Lord of the Rings Goldberry Plate Goldberry
Ah, the beautiful River-daughter Goldberry. An ethereal creature of mystery matched only by the mysteries surrounding her mate Tom Bombadil. Together they tend to The Old Forest outside the boundaries of The Shire. Together they sing and dance and seem to have no cares in the world

Danbury Mint Anger of the Mountain Plate Anger of the Mountain
Having left Rivendell and crossed the endless flatlands of Hollin, the company must now choose a path to the Redhorn Gate, and finally through to Dimrill Dale. Forgoing the paths under the three peaks of the Mines of the Moria, the company braves the snow laden heights instead. The Anger of the Mountain is apperent early in the attempt to pass as snow piles up with each passing step. Only Legolas the Elf can tread the path with any ease. With each mile conditions grow worse, finally an avalanche makes the journey to hard for the haflings to complete. The mountain has defeated them...another road must be taken

Danbury Mint Fellowship leaves Rivendell Plate Fellowship Leaves Rivendell
24.90 in UK, 31 (~$55) outside UK
The Council of Elrond has put into place the members of the Fellowship, and the Nine Walkers set out into the wilds to offset the machinations of the Nine Ringwraiths.

Danbury Mint Lord of the Rings Dawn at Minas Tirith Plate Dawn at Minas Tirith
Shown here is a painting of the Sun rising above Minas Tirith as Gandalf, riding Shadowfax, arrives to provide a ray of hope to the forlorn, and war-weary people of Gondor

Danbury Mint Lord of the Rings Mirror of Galadriel Plate Mirror of Galadriel
Having just survived the harrowing Mines of Moris, and losing Gandalf on the Bridge of Khazad-dum, the Fellowship of the Ring finds itself in the Golden Woods of Lothlorien. Lothlorien is one of only a few High Elves kingdoms left in Middle-Earth. Ruled by Celeborn and Galadriel, it is kept safe from the Eye of Sauron by Galadriels power as she posseses one of the three elven rings of power. The Mirror of Galadriel, as depicted on this collectors plate, is a tool used by the Queen to see into the hearts and minds of whomever looks into it. It also shows events of the past, present, and future.

Danbury Mint Lord of the Rings Rivendell Plate The Last Homely House
Having a place a honor in both "The Hobbit" and "Lord of the Rings", the Last Homely House is a reference to The House of Elrond in Rivendell. Shown here, with its mant beautiful waterfalls and stunning views, the House of Elrond is the hidden outpost of many of the last remaining High Elves in Middle-Earth.

Danbury Mint Lord of the Rings Weathertop Plate Fifth Day after Weathertop
One must have read the books to fully understand the painting on this plate. Shown here is Aragorn leading the four Hobbits out of the wilds surrounding Weathertop. Frodo is mortally wounded from the Morgul blade of the Witch-King of Angmar and is slowly entering the twilight wotld of the Ringwraiths. Aragorn, with help from Sam, has been using Athelas to stave off the effects of the wounds to Frodo....but Rivendell is still a long way off. It was on the fifth day after Weathertop that a rider is heard coming along the road. Having been pursued by Nazgul for weeks, the Hobbits and Aragorn take cover only to find a gleaming vision of an Elf-lord riding past them. Sent by Elrond, the Elf-lord if known to us as Glorfindel.

Danbury Mint Lord of the Rings At the Crossroads Plate At the Crossroads
After the harrowing journey through the Dead Marshes, and a dead end at the Black Gates of Mordor, Frodo, Sam, and Gollum have finally arrived in the fair land of Ithilien. Following an ancient road they arrive at a crossroads. Here they see an ancient statue built by the people of Gondor long ago. The head of the figure has been toppled onto the ground and a new head of an orc has been placed in its steads. Made vulgar by the orcs of Mordor this statue served as reminder of the ancient glory of Numenor...and its decay.

Danbury Mint Lord of the Rings Crowning of Elessar Plate Crowning of Elessar
Defining the final moments of the Third Age of Middle-Earth, this plate shows the Crowning of King Elessar. The ascent of Aragorn is complete at this moment, starting out as a Dunedain Ranger of the North known only as Strider, then as Aragorn heir to Elendil once his true nature and lineage is revealed, now to King Elessar. The renewed lineage of Isildur and Elendil is now back as the restored King of Gondor.

Danbury Mint Lord of the Rings Sentinels of Numenor Plate The Sentinels of Numenor
More commonly referred to as The Pillars of Argonath, this collectors plate depicts one of the amazing achievements of the people of Numenor in the Second Age of Middle-Earth. Carved directly from the mountains are the images of King Elendil and King Isildur of Arnor / Gondor. Standing sternly on the outer boudaries of Gondors realm, the Pillars of the Argonath serve as both welcome to friends, and warning to enemies, that the people of Numenorean descent are not to be taken lightly.

Danbury Mint Lord of the Rings Eowyn Witch-King Plate Eowyn and the Witch-King
Whether you have read the books or only seen the movies, this scene is epic. Having disguised herself as Derhelm, man of Rohan, and ridden with the Rohirrim to Gondor, Eowyn finds herself right in the middle of the Battle for the Pelennor Fields. Standing outside the gates of Minas Tirith see watches her uncle, King Theoden, fall in battle against the Witch-King of Angmar, lying broken under his horse Snowmane, Theoden is near death. It is the devotion for her uncle, and her willingness to fight that combine in this moment to make for truly epic heroics of Eowyn.

Danbury Mint Lord of the Rings Bathing at Crickhollow Plate Bathing at Crickhollow
Having finally made the passage from Hobbiton, over the Brandywine River, and through the Shire, the Four Hobbits (Sam Gamgee, Merry Brandybuck, Pippin Took, and Frodo Baggins) and Fatty Bolger are finally able to rest for a night. At the residence in Crickhollow, on the edge of The Old Forest, that Frodo is pretending will be his new home, the Hobbits take a much needed bath. It is here that the friends reveal their conspiracy to assist Frodo in his journey out of The Shire

Danbury Mint Lord of the Rings Old Man Willow Plate Old Man Willow
While given a nod in the extended version of The Two Towers movie, Old Man Willow plays a more defined role in the books. Living in The Old Forest, Old Man Willow lures and traps the Hobbits in his roots as they make their way to Bree. It is only the mysterious and affable Tom Bombadil who can save the Hobbits from this ancient tree.

Danbury Mint Lord of the Rings Boromirs Funeral Plate Boromirs Funeral
In a sadder moment of the tragic and cautionary tale of Boromir of Gondor, we see his funeral boat cascading down the Falls of Rauros. Boromirs body is laid to rest in a elven-boat provided to the Fellowship by Galadriel of Lothlorien, his body surrounded by the arms of the Uruk-Hai orcs he felled in his final battle and the cleaved Horn of Gondor lies on the chest.

Danbury Mint Lord of the Rings Sun Unveiled Plate The Sun Unveiled
Depicted on this plate is a post-war scene of Aragorn (now King Elessar) and Arwen together in peace at last. Standing atop the great city of Minas Tirith, they embrace each other as they gaze across the lands of Gondor.
