Having heard and heeded Sauron's call to war, from out of the east of Middle-Earth comes an army of Easterlings. Seen in the Two Towers movie, this army marches to the Black Gates of Mordor in preparation for the assault upon Gondor. This Easterling detects movement outside his lines and investigates. Thanks to the cloaks provided to Frodo and Sam by Galadriel they escape unseen.

Treebeard you may call him...though this is not his real name....don't ask. This mighty Ent resides in the Forest of Fangorn and is, in many ways, Fangorn itself. In the Two Towers movie Treebeard is confronted with the results of Saruman thirst for power and is hastily forced into action. Along with other Ents and Hourns, Treebeard leads the assault upon Isengard that is responsible for Sarumans eventual demise, then leads his unusual army to the fields below Helms Deep to help in the mop-up operations of Saruman Uruk-Hai army.

He is part of the legions that pour forth from Mordor as Aragorn and Gandalf stand before the Black Gates challenging the authority of Sauron in an effort to buy time for Frodo and Sam. This particular Troll does battle with Aragorn until the will of Sauron that holds him is broken.

Known as Gwaihir the Windlord, this leader of the Great Eagles plays a pivotal role in the destruction of Sauron. He saves Gandalf from Orthanc in The Fellowship of the Ring, and then saves Frodo and Sam from death after Sauron's defeat in The Return of the King. Gwaihir also plays an important role in the path the One Ring takes earlier in the Third Age....but that is another tale.
