Release Number 1
February 2002
Limited release of 10,000
Once a place of riches and wonders, the ancient Dwarven kingdom of the Mines of Moria was taken by a Balrog of Morgoth and a tribe of Misty Mountain Orcs. Evil in thought and deed, they sacked
the Mines of Moria along with the sacred tombs of the Dwarves (In Fellowship of the Ring, the company comes across the Tomb of Balin in the Chamber of Mazarbul), turning the once great city of
Moria into a dank hole of vermin and decay. While Gandalf eventually rids the Mines of Moria of the Balrog of Morgoth, Moria will be
inhabited by the Moria Orcs for quite some time into the
Fourth Age.

Limited release of 10,000
Most feared of the servants of the Dark Lord Sauron were the Nazgul (Ringwraiths). Their true forms hidden by the rings of power gifted to them by Sauron in the Second Age, they appeared
in The Fellowship of the Ring as Black Riders on tortured mounts, but everywhere they went a shadow of terror spread before them. Slaves to Sauron's will, they sought but one thing in all
Middle-earth, the One-ring of Power. Pursuing the four Hobbits and then Aragorn as well, from the Shire all the way to Rivendell, the Nazgul will once again go shapeless thanks to the magic
of Arwen, Elrond, and the High Elves.

A tower of great strength, Orthanc was built in the Second Age by the peoples of Numenor. By the middle of the Third Age it was abandoned despite the presence of a Palantir. It was Saruman who
then took control of Isengard. By the end of the Third Age the Orcs and
Uruk-Hai had dug deep in the pits below the fortress of Orthanc in Isengard, the fallen wizard Saruman’s Orc minions began
to tear up rock and earth for their master. Great furnaces they made, stoking the flames with the flailing limbs of trees that once forested the Orthanc tower’s grounds. The ruinous wake of their
industry in Isengard was ash and decay. It is in The Two Towers that the furnaces of Isengard will be finally quenched by the efforts of Treebeard and the Ents of Fangorn.

In the last days of the Second Age, there came united, a great host of Elves and Men to stand against the darkness of Sauron and Mordor. Assembled on the Dagorlad Plains under the banners of
King Gil-Galad of the Elves and King Elendil of Men, they came to be remembered as the Last Alliance. Though they suffered grievous losses in their campaign against the Dark Lord Sauron of Mordor,
in the end they temporarily prevailed, and the battle was won for the forces of light. It was in this battle that Isildur cut the One Ring of Power from Sauron's hand as seen in the prologue
scenes of Fellowship of the Ring.

Limited release of 10,000
In his quest to amass a secret army and dominion over Rohan, the wizard Saruman bred beneath Orthanc and Isengard, a foul new kind of terror. Quick to mature, strong of limb and will, and
unafraid of the light, these new Orcs were the fearsome Uruk-Hai. Saruman's lesser Orc minions, Mordor Orcs from the original line of Orcs twisted by Morgoth into being from the Elves, were
charged with raising the new-born Uruk-Hai, and made use of this opportunity to abuse and torment them, until such time as the Uruk-Hai rose against them and fought back. It was a company of
Uruk-Hai led by Lurtz, at Amon Hen, that killed Boromir and snatched the Halflings for the desperate run across the plains of Rohan.

Bred in the pits of Isengard, Saruman's mighty Uruk-Hai soldiers were a fearsome new kind of Orc. Equipped for war, they were sent out under their captain, Lurtz, to hunt down the
Fellowship of the Ring. Uruk-Hai were unlike any Orcs to come before them, tall and straight, strong-limbed and fearless even in daylight. They wielded sturdy, straight scimitar blades
and thick shields. It was at Amon Hen (the Hill of the Eye) that these Uruks finally caught up to the Fellowship of the Ring.

The Pass of Cahadras having defeat them, the Fellowship of the Ring was forced to consider another road to the other side of the Mountains, the Mines of Moria. It was here, in the Chamber
of Mazarbul on the site of Balin's Tomb, that they would encounter a huge and terrible Cave Troll of Moria. The brute’s impenetrable hide and great strength frequently overtook his weak mind,
and being a creature of evil design, he was given to bouts of uncontrollable rage and violence beyond his own understanding. The Cave Troll still possessed the instincts of its evil master though,
and instinctually knew to go after Frodo Baggins specifically.

of Rohan like the wind. For three days and nights they ran. It was not until they reached the eaves of Fangorn Forest that they stopped. It was here that a Eothed led by Eomer would
destroy most of them, but not Grishnakh. Grishnakh pursued the two young Hobbits into Fangorn only to meet his end under the roots of Treebeard.

It was one part slow poison from the words of Grima Wormtongue, and a second part spell of Saruman, that had corrupted the mind of Theoden, King of the Mark. It was in The two Towers
that Theoden would finally be freed by Gandalf from the control of the wizard Saruman. Only then could King Theoden of Rohan put forth the might of his Rohirrim in support of the forces
of light. Unable to defeat the Rohirrim by subtle means, Saruman had resolved to attack the people of Rohan with his vast
Uruk-Hai army. King Theoden would then rise to meet this seemingly
indomitable challenge, mustering his forces in Helm’s Deep, where with the aid of the Galadhrim led by Haldir, he fought to save his people.

As he secretly prepared his new Uruk-Hai army in the deeps of Isengard, the Wizard Saruman recruited other allies to harry the Rohirrim and the people of Rohan. In addition to the wild Dunlending
Men, Saruman sent Orcs mounted atop vicious Wargs to raid the outlying villages of the Mark. Huge wolf-like carnivores, nearly as tall as a horse, the Wargs were consumed by a bloodlust their Orc
masters were barely able to contain and control. It is in The Two Towers that a scouting party of these Warg Riders will come across the people of Rohan as they seek sanctuary in Helms Deep. It
is also in these scenes that Aragorn will fall to the river below.

but that does not mean you should make these Ents mad either. It is the sight of his beloved forest having been partially destroyed that finally spurns this mighty Ent into action. Isengard
and Saruman will never be the same.

Driven to once again possess his lost ‘precious’, Gollum had trailed the Fellowship of the Ring all the way from the outer edges of Rivendell. In the opening scenes of The Two Towers, Gollum,
seeing the Hobbits separated from their company at last, will make his move for the One Ring. It is in the foothills of the Emyn Muil, as Frodo Baggins and Sam Gamgee draw closer to
Mordor and Mount Doom that Gollum will sneak down upon the Hobbits from above. In an unexpected twist, Gollum would become the Hobbits’ prisoner, and he the servant of the Rings new master.
Against the wishes of Sam Gamgee, Frodo Baggins offers the wretched Gollum the choice of joining them as their guide, and
because Frodo's kindly manner appealed to the gentler nature of the hobbit
Smeagol, whom Gollum had once been before the Ring enslaved him, Gollum accepted. This kindness caused Gollum to waver in his original murderous resolve, and began a debate raging in his twisted
and troubled mind.

A fearsome and warlike people, the Easterlings were a race of Men from the lands of the distant east. In the year of the War of the Ring they flocked to Sauron's banner in the thousands,
assembling their vast army inside Mordor, in preparation for the sacking of Minas Tirith in Gondor and the conquest of all Middle-earth. As Frodo Baggins and his small party made their quiet way
towards the Black Gates of Mordor, they observed a legion of these Easterlings marching into Mordor, and they came perilously close to being discovered early in The Two Towers.

In the most pivotal scene of Fellowship of the Ring, Gandalf will try to block the Balrog of Morgoth from pursuing the company across the Bridge of Khazad-Dum in the Mines of Moria.
Sacrificing himself to save the Fellowship and the quest, Gandalf was believed lost when he fell into the abyss below the bridge still fighting the Balrog. Unbeknownst to all however,
the duel of light and fire, that began on the bridge above was far from over. Falling for an impossibly long time, Gandalf and the Balrog fought as they plunged far below the Bridge of
Khazad-Dum into the bowels of Middle-Earth, the righteous light of Gandalf pitted against the consuming fire and enveloping shadow of the Balrog. Though ultimately victorious, the battle
would cost Gandalf the Grey greatly, it is not until The Two Towers that we learn of his return as Gandalf the White, replacement for Saruman as head of the Istari.
