Archives: Sideshow Lord of the Rings Figures

About Original Series:
Beginning in 2001 Sideshow Collectibles introduced these statues / figures to their line of LOTR releases. Most of these have been sculpted in approximately 1:6 scale, and all are cast in high quality polystone, hand-finished, and hand-painted to exacting standards. They come complete with a hand-numbered individual edition number on the bottom side of the base. Developed by a combination of artists and the Sideshow Collectibles Design and Development team, these figures might be the most collectible of the Lord of the Rings pieces.

Hung with cruel weaponry and saddled by their Haradrim masters with lofty war towers, Mumakils charge in to battle crushing and destroying everything in their path. From atop their precarious perches, Haradrim rain arrows and spears down upon their foes, while their beasts grind horse and Man alike underfoot. A defeat of one of these mighty Mumakil is expertly captured in this polystone statue, sculpted by Weta Workshop artist David Meng. With a war tower on the verge of collapse and all Haradrim riders slain, this colossal beast is captured in the midst of its inevitable fall.

Peter Jackson as a Corsair Statue
Winter 2005
$125
approx. 9" H (289mm) x 7" W (178mm) x 4" D (102mm)
6.00 lbs (2.59 Kg)
Item # 9322
Artist(s): Ben Hawker and Heather Kilgour of Weta Workshop
As Sauron puts forth his might against Gondor, he calls to him all those grim peoples under his sway. From Umbar in the south by way of the River Anduin come great black ships crewed by fearsome Corsairs. A brutal race of men, Corsairs of Umbar are painted with tattoos and bear wicked arms to board and sack their prey on open seas. Now they sail north to answer Sauron's call to war, their weapons ready and loaded, and their appetites for conquest whetted by thought of plunder in the fall of Minas Tirith. With this final piece in the Lord of the Rings range, we pay tribute to a man who made these movies possible, Peter Jackson. Without Peter's vision, direction, and imagination, Tolkien's world could never have been realized so faithfully or flawlessly. We celebrate Peter's final cameo appearance in the trilogy as a corsair mercenary, destined for a fateful encounter with Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli.
